Daily Skincare Routine for Aging Skin: Prevent and Treat Wrinkles, Age Spots and Other Signs of Aging Skin
No matter how clear ones skin was when they were young, there is always a chance that they will not age well. Aging skin is a great concern for many.
Although one cannot turn back the years or stop aging altogether, they can reduce the look of wrinkles and age spots and those who have yet to experience these symptoms can prevent them with a daily skin care routine tailored to aging skin.
What is Aging Skin?
Aging skin is most commonly linked with wrinkles and age spots or sun spots. Wrinkles are caused by a loss of elasticity and a loosening of the skin.
Severely aged skin is thin and crepey and can look very unhealthy.
The age spots or sun spots are spots of hyper pigmentation on the skin that are usually brown or liver colored and that usually show up, not only on the face, but the hands and arms as well.
Daily Skincare Routine for Aging Skin
This daily skin care routine will help to prevent premature aging and treat the signs of aging that have already appeared on the skin.
- Cleanse – There are many anti-aging products available. Look for ones that contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s) or salicylic acid. AHA’s help prevent and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Salicylic acid helps sooth the surface of the skin and improves its color. If the skin is dry, as a lot of aging skin is, look for a creamy, moisturizing cleanser rather then a foaming one. Cleanse the face twice daily.
- Tone – Look for a toner that will not be too harsh on the skin. Something containing green tea, a powerful antioxidant, would be good. This will improve elasticity of the skin and have a soothing effect. Toner is necessary because it will help the skin to absorb and hold in the moisturizer. Apply a thin layer to the skin with a cotton ball or, if it is in a bottle with an atomizer, spray directly on the face from an arm’s length away.
- Moisturize – To ward off the signs of aging it is essential that one uses a moisturizer with SPF. This will protect the skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays which causes wrinkles and hyper pigmentation. Apply the moisturizer every morning before going out into the sun. A moisturizing, anti-aging night cream can be used before bed.
