Enhance Your Eyelashes: Products to Thicken and Lengthen Lashes
These days there seems to be a cure for everything, and now there are even medication-type serums to increase lash growth, thickness, and strength, as well as darken them. Read on to find out about the different products on the market.
Latisse
Latisse is the first prescription based and FDA-approved lash enhancer on the market. Originally a medication for glaucoma patients, Latisse was found to re-grow short or sparse lashes. The product is applied once daily to the base of the upper eyelids.
While new lash growth and results are expected in approximately four weeks, Latisse is not for everyone. The medication can discolor the eyes, so do not use on light-colored eyes such as blue, green, or grey. Latisse may also stain the upper eyelid. A prescription is required. Average Cost – $130
nueLash
nueLash is an eyelash enhancing serum sold at retailers including Neiman Marcus. This product uses nutrients and minerals to strengthen pre-existing lashes as well as lengthen, thicken, and darken new lashes. Can be used by all eye colors, and will not change the current eye color. neuLash may darken the eyelid, but that is more common on darker complexions and will go away when usage has stopped.
Product can also be used on the eyebrows for re-growth in sparse areas. Results will be seen in four weeks. Product is applied once a day to clean, bare eyelids at the base of the lashes. Cost – $150
L’Oréal Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum
The Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum by L’Oréal is designed to strengthen, thicken, and re-grow lashes with results in four weeks. This serum should be applied twice daily, at night before bed on clean, bare lashes and eyelid and in the morning underneath mascara.
L’Oréal’s main ingredients to help condition lashes are Centella Asiatica and Arginine. Centella Asiatica is a conditioning plant extract, and Arginine is one of the principle amino acids found in Keratin (the main component of hair and lashes). Average Cost – $15
L’Oréal Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara
L’Oréal’s mascara is a two-part system to help condition lashes and visibly extend length. The first step is the Lash Boosting Primer, which contains a pro-Keratin complex to fortify lashes. The second step is the Ultra-Lengthening Mascara Topcoat for an 80 percent improvement in lash length. The mascara can be applied any time of the day.
This product will not grow lashes to the extent of lash enhancing products, but is meant to be used in combination with L’Oréal’s Concentrated Lash Boosting Serum. Average Cost – $12
Trish McEvoy Lash Enhancer Nighttime Conditioning Treatment
This lash enhancer by Trish McEvoy is meant to be used once a day at night to promote stronger, fuller, healthier lashes in only two weeks. The Trish McEvoy product uses proteins, vitamins, and moisturizing ingredients as well as SymPeptides to stimulate re-growth. This serum can also be applied to brows for re-growth in sparse areas. The treatment is supposed to show a 25 percent increase in volume in the first two weeks. Cost – $125
